Who Has Seen the Wind?

I have not seen the wind but it has made it’s blustery presence know to me. It makes my pedaling much harder than it needs to be and it plays games with my balance. I can’t see the wind but it sees me and it laughs at the misery it causes. I wish it would play nice and push me along but it seems determined to impede my progress.

Today’s 90 mile day from Bowling Green to Monroeville, Indiana wasn’t all bad, in fact the first 50 miles or so were easy. However, once the afternoon arrived the winds out of the west began to howl. I rode with Jacob and Jade, both younger riders. I enjoy their company and we help each other. Today Jade had a flat and even after fixing it she still had problems with the tire. It slowed us down but I didn’t really mind. I know if I have a problem they have my back.

After arriving in the small town of Monroeville and the community center where we will spend the night I went to the local tavern with two other riders. We had an awesome dinner and the local paper took our picture and we instantly became celebrities in this tiny bar. People donated to our cause and asked us many questions about the difficulties of riding such long distances. A guy by the name of Mole gave us a donation of $20 even though he looked like he really couldn’t afford to do so. I’m always amazed by people’s generosity.
