I’m a little less than two weeks away from the beginning of the Atlantic Coast Ride and my training has been different than in years past. I’ve been doing more cross training, weight lifting, spinning and hill riding. I’ve also had a few long rides. Last week I went to Ohio to get a century in. I left from just outside of Columbus with the idea of riding 105 miles to Cincinnati. The wind was blowing between 12 to 20 mph directly in my face. After 50 miles and a lot of frustration I turned north east and headed to Yellow Springs. I finally called it quits once I saw the Yellow Spring’s Brewery on my left at mile 60. I was exhausted and mighty thirsty so my day ended there with a nice pint of pale ale. Cindy was in Yellow Springs visiting her good friends Deann and Dan. Deann took me in and made a fabulous steak dinner. I swear, she gave me an entire side of beef.

The next day after a fabulous rest I headed back to the outskirts of Columbus. This time the wind was behind me and I flew the 60 miles back to where Cindy picked me up and we drove back to Pittsburgh. Although I didn’t accomplish my goal of riding over 100 miles to Cincinnati, I did ride 120 miles in two windy and cold days. I believe I’m ready for the Atlantic Coast but is it ready for me!
