I’ve been holed up in a hotel in Hasting, Minnesota for two days now. I was prescribed Paxlovid, a new antiviral medication by Dr. Kristen, a wonderful person who seemed genuinely concerned about my health. Because Paxlovid needs to filter through the body my kidneys needed to be checked which was done with a blood test. I can’t speak highly enough about the clinic that treated me.

I’m feeling well although my voice is a little raspy. I just had the one day of muscle aches and a fever. I’m not flying home because my wonderful wife is driving to Minnesota to take me back home. This will give me more time to become less contagious. Thursday will be 6 days from when I came down with Covid. We’ll double mask and the doctor said that because I don’t have a cough or I’ve been sneezing it should be ok to travel by car. Her only concern was blood clotting so she put me on a regiment of low dosage aspirin and suggested that I get out of the car to stretch ever couple of hours.

I calculated the number of miles I rode and the number is 4,117, so I’m happy with that but I’ll definitely finish next year. I only have 521 miles to go and the terrain is relatively flat and Minnesota has great bike trails. I already have a couple of friends who may join me on this less torturous ride.

The end of the day and the end of my ride.

To sum up my feelings, I can’t deny that I’m disappointed but I’m not deterred from finishing. I’ve seen some beautiful areas of this country that I probably never would have experienced had I not been on a bicycle. I’ve met people from these areas that have changed my perspective of America. Most people are good and kind but social media and the media make it seem like this country is doomed. It isn’t, people need to leave their little bubbles and see the good hard working and kind people that make up the heart and soul of this great country. Ride on 🚴🏼‍♂️
