Georgia and Squeaky Shoes on My Mind

We left Yulee, Florida at 8:00 in the morning and flew to the Georgia state line. The road was flat and I had good energy. The only problem during the first 30 miles was Dick’s new shoes. I’m not allowed to say what his shoes cost, but you could probably buy a small house in Pittsburgh for what he spent. The problem with his new shoes was that they squeaked very loudly when he pedaled. I had a small blue tooth speaker that I had to blast to drown out Dick’s shoe squeak.
After mile 30 the wind picked up and it was directly in our faces. Our speed really slowed after that. Our last 40 miles were somewhat difficult but the road was flat and lightly traveled.

Cindy and Dick, two Southern Tier Alumni
The last 10 miles into Brunswick, Georgia was eventful because we had to traverse the Sidney Lanner Bridge into Brunswick, a massive suspension bridge that was a formidable climb after a reality flat ride.

Once over the bridge we glided into Historic Brunswick and both Dick and I were immediately impressed with its Southern charm. We’re staying at a very beautiful church and the accommodations for the night are more than sufficient.

After a quick shower at the local fire station Dick, Cindy and I went to Tipsy McSways‘ tavern. Cindy did the Southern Tier with Dick and myself in 2017. The beer was cold and the food was good. After dinner I walked around Brunswick and was impressed with how lively it was. A country band was playing in a small park and the local brewery, the Silver Bluff, had a great band also. People of all colors were mingling and having a great time.

It has been a great day! Tomorrow we have an 82 mile day. Bring it on!
