The big day finally arrived after a two years wait. This year Covid could not stop us from getting on the road and raising money for MS, which of course is a very worthwhile endeavor. We had a short team meeting and team photo this morning (I’m the tall one in the back row) and off we went. We headed north on A1A through St. Augustin, the oldest city in the US. It’s a beautiful city and the fort is amazing.

Our first ferry crossing
I rode with my buddy Dick Williams who I have had a number of great biking adventures with. He is one of the original Lost Boys of the Southern Tier and it was just like old times when we got lost during the first few hours. We also rode with Jacob and Ron who seemed not to mind that we were off route a few times.

A rest stop along the way
The ride was flat and relatively fast due to a tailwind. We saw some magnificent homes while riding through Ponte Verda Beach. For the most part the roads were busy but I felt safe because of the decent shoulders lining the route.

Tonight we’re staying outside of Fernandina Beach in Yulee. Through the kindness of the Journey Church we have an awesome place to lay our heads tonight.
Today we rode 73 easy miles and tomorrow we traverse 71 miles to Brunswick, GA. Hopefully tomorrow will go as smoothly as today.
At the end of my night Cindy and her very good friend Deann stopped in at the Journey Church to see how the better half live. I believe they were impressed by our accommodations. They thought it was appropriate that I chose the Toddler Room of the church to sleep in. I know my comfort zone.
