Dean and I arrive at the first rest stop before Angie.

Dean points to a sign that we hope motorists will comply with as we race to Pismo Beach  This morning I woke up at 5:00 AM with the idea of riding solo to Pismo Beach without spending much time at the rest stops. I also challenged Angie to a sort of race. She had to give me a half an hour head start to rest stop one which was at mile thirty. She’s a class 2 racer so we both agreed that this was a fitting handicap. As I pulled out at 6:30 I was surprised to see Dean on his bike and ready to ride with me. We had two large climbs right at the start. The climbs are called The Two Sisters. I had another name for them but this is a G-Rated blog so I’ll not offend anyone. It was foggy and damp for the first 30 miles but we rode hard knowing Angie would probably pass us at any minute, however we made it to mile 30 eight minutes before she arrived. We declared victory but she pointed out that she rode the distance 22 minutes faster than we did. We insisted that we were the champions which meant absolutely nothing. Dean helped me push faster than usual so I could cover the 88 miles to arrive in Pismo Beach by 3:00 PM so that I could meet my lovely wife, Cindy. She was my sole motivation for riding faster than usual. She brought treats for all of the riders and joined us for dinner that was provided by Bob Smith who rode the first half of the PAC with us. It was a great night.
