Because I was going to see Cindy again at the end of my ride at Goleta, I raced through the 91 miles knowing I’d be able to spend two days with her. We had a scheduled rest day in Goleta which is 8 miles north of Santa Barbara. Being with Cindy, a comfortable hotel and wine tasting is a powerful motivator. I’m sure I could have found something interesting to take a photo of but a lot of the ride was through farm land and on the Freeway 101. On this day I just stayed focused on competing the long ride in good time. I arrived in Goleta by 3:00 and Cindy priced me up and we went to the Hampton Inn where I was able to take another long shower with unlimited hot water. It was awesome. We didn’t feel like driving so we walked across the street to a Mexican Restaurant that offered authentic dishes and one of the worst Karaoke singers in all of California. Because the chef wanted to impress us since we were his only dining customers he took an extraordinarily long time to prepare our food. All the while the screeching, off tune singer serenaded us with love songs in Spanish. My ears hurt as much as my legs do after a 22 mile climb. We told the owner and chef he might increase business by eliminating Karaoke three nights a week. He actually gave it some thought. Tomorrow Cindy and I are going to explore some of the wine tasting shops in Santa Barbara.
