Something I’ll do on September 6

Another laundry day in the park

Fresh produce markets all along our route

Today’s ride was a slow culinary trek through the Monterey County agricultural area. For breakfast I had deep fried artichoke hearts and for lunch I had ripe strawberries picked fresh from the field. As we rode through field after field of various vegetables we saw hundreds of workers picking the crops by hand. There were large tent cities on the farms’ hillsides. These migrants workers have my upmost respect for the work they do to help bring fresh food to our tables.
Once we were near Monterey we rode on a lightly traveled bike path that took us to the bay. From there we had to climb a very steep hill, what else is new, to the city campground on the highest point in Monterey.
After setting up camp and showering, I got an Uber and four of us headed to Cannery Row. Tim wanted to eat at Bubba Gump’s which we did. We sat by the water and had a good seafood dinner. Tomorrow we have a difficult 70+ mile day with over 6,000 feet of climbing. I’m excited for the ups and downs of Big Sur but not the holiday traffic that we’ll probably encounter on Rt. 1.
