The Brave

Brussel Sprouts and Sunflowers

I’m having difficulty coming up with

something exciting that happened today and I’m really drawing blanks. We started in the fog along the coast and I couldn’t see much because my glasses were spotted with moisture. The group of riders I was with said I really didn’t miss anything. I did view the ocean and some cliffs but after 20 days of ocean and cliffs it’s hard to get excited. I almost wished I’d seen endless fields of brussel sprout plants. Oh wait, I did as we entered Sunset Beach State Park. I actually took more pictures of the fields of plants than I did of the ocean. The Sunset Beach Campground is quite nice and a short walk to the shoreline. Before my simple camp dinner I walked down to the beach to watch Lina, Alex and Dean swim in the cold Pacific. I was in a winter’s jacket and they were frolicking in the freezing water. I must be getting old because I really dislike being cold. I was better suited for the hot Southern Tier Ride than I’ve been for the Pacific Coast Ride. Mark Twain once said that the coldest winter he’d ever experienced was a summer in San Francisco. There’s some truth to his hyperbole. Tonight we sat around after dinner telling stories about previous rides and playing a game that we made up. We had 10 attempts to flip a wine cork into a plastic cup. We’re a pretty simple group of people. The campground has been overrun with raccoons recently and we’ve already seen some eyeballing the scraps of food on the picnic table we’ve been sitting at. Once in my tent they can have at it.
