San Francisco Confusion

Behind me looms the Golden Gate Bridge

A windmill just before entering The Pacific Coast Highway

Adam, who I rode the U.K. and Northern Tier with helps us navigate the bridge.

Working our way to the bridge

Alcatraz is to the left and a freighter is to the right as seen from the bridge. I was warned that leaving Sausalito and making my way through San Francisco would be confusing but surely my GPS, loaded with the MS route map, wouldn’t fail me and it didn’t. My problem was that some of the roads and trails were closed and finding alternate routes slowed me down and since I had people following me it slowed “us” down. The ride across the Golden Gate Bridge was beautiful and we took a number of pictures. The bridge wasn’t as crowded as everyone expected. Once we got to the end of the bridge we encountered our first trail closure. It took (me) some time to correct our route but once we did it was smooth sailing to Rt. 1, The Pacific Highway. Today we picked up two new riders, Nancy and Colin. They are very experienced riders and a nice addition to our group. Colin rode with Dean, Tim, Ernie and myself. It was a good group because no one abused me when I got them lost a few times. Why people would follow me is a mystery, on the Southern Tier Ride I was a member of the “Lost Boys. Tonight we’re staying in Half Moon Bay, CA. It a nice little seaside town with a number of good restaurants. I’ve just returned from an awesome Italian Restaurant. I’m loaded with carbs for tomorrow’s 63 mile day to Sunset Beach State Park where we’ll be camping.
