The Eureka House

A beautiful Victorian House in Ferndale

I didn’t have service yesterday and now I’m struggling to remember what I did and saw. It was a 56 mile day that began with a very easy 25 miles to the town of Ferndale, CA. There, the town took great pride in their Victorian style buildings and homes. It was a quaint little hamlet and a great place to get food for another night in a remote campground. The ride out of Ferndale was fun until we hit a 12% grade hill that marked the start of a number of climbs. With about 10 miles to go to camp we entered the Humboldt Redwood Forest. These miles through the giant redwoods seem to fly by. There is so much beauty surrounding you that you forget you’re peddling. We arrived at the Red Crescent campground and after eating our delicious food that we purchased in Ferndale we celebrated Brom ( Bike Prom). This Brom was very tame compared to the Northern Tier Brom but the outfits were very creative and we had a few laughs at the bizarreness of the whole event. We played a few games and had a few drinks and then most of us wandered off to our tents for a good night’s sleep.
