A magnificent lighthouse

A beautiful beach

An abandoned lighthouse

Angie, the Queen of every steep climb!

An early morning scenic delight

Today was a 79 mile day that was mainly on busy 101. Although the ride was over 4,000 feet of climbing and the road was noisy, I didn’t think it was very hard. We had a NW wind that made the flat areas very easy.

I started the morning riding by myself but was passed at mile 20 by a speeding Angela. I caught up to her a few miles up the road at a scenic viewpoint. She sped off and then Dean from Arizona came up behind me and I ended up riding with Dean the rest of the way. We ride well together because we basically have the same peddling rhythm. I also enjoy his company. Riding on 101 is beautiful but somewhat dangerous. There are beautiful sights to the right but you must pay close attention to the left where cars are passing ever so closely. I took a number of pictures but I doubt any of them capture the real beauty of the Oregon Coast. Today I had my first real flat. As I exited a large bridge I ran a large roofing staple into my rear bike tire. At first I thought I had broken a spoke but once I pulled over I saw the large staple imbedded in the tire. I was able to replace the tire tube easily which is a very good thing. If you can’t repair your own flat you must buy dinner for the person that helps you. Tonight I had dinner with Ernie, our route leader. We had Mexican. I usually ride well after a Mexican dinner. We shall see.
