A Power Lunch

Flat and deserted

The peaceful Pend Oreille River

Today we rode north along the Pend Oreille River in Washington for the first 50 miles and then we had a steady climb to the Little Pend Oreille Wildlife Refuge. We’re staying in a small campground next to a small lake. It’s quite beautiful. The early morning part of the ride was flat and easy. It was a cool morning and the road was not heavily traveled. A few boats were cruising on the river and a number of summer cottages dotted the shoreline. At mile 50, our biggest climb since The Road to the Sun in Glacier began. The climb was about 1,000 feet. We didn’t have any trouble with this 5 mile 6% grade climb. After the climb the ride to camp was a breeze. We probably needed a day like today because tomorrow we have an 85 mile day with 4,000 feet of climb.
