Today’s 95 mile ride was beautiful. For the most part the roads were good and the scenery was spectacular. Our only tough stretch was coming into Sand Point, Idaho later in the day when traffic was heavy and the shoulder was narrow. In the morning we stopped to hike to the beautiful Kootenai River Falls and it’s locally famous swinging bridge. It was an easy one and a half mile walk and it was well worth the effort. Most of the ride was slightly down hill with only a few climbs. The weather was absolutely perfect for riding. Around 1:00 PM we hit the Idaho State Line and we entered the Pacific Time Zone. Shortly after entering Idaho our route took us along Lake Pend Oreille. This very large lake is a beautiful sapphire blue with many large lakeside estate dotting the shores. We’re staying in Sand Point which is located at the northwest corner of the lake. Sand Point in a lovely town with many good restaurants and breweries. These are the prerequisites for being declared a lovely town by many of us. We’re staying in a United Methodist Church that is quite adequate and within walking distance of Main Street. Today is a rest day so I’m trying to organize a group of us to go to an ax throwing venue for a little beer and lots of ax throwing. As of now I have a lot of skeptics so my first big organized event of the trip may turn out to be a bust. Stay tuned.
