A Failure to Launch

Faced with 30-40 mph winds and miles of road construction, the route leaders decided it was too dangerous to bike today. We packed all of our bikes and gear into the vans and drove to Cut Bank Montana. There we had time to shop and relax before we start our climb up the Rockies into Glacier National Park tomorrow. We’re all a little nervous about bears and narrow roads. Tomorrow we ride 68 miles to Saint Mary’s where we’ll camp in the park. The are many rules that bikers most follow and the steep climb up The Road to the Sun has us all a little apprehensive. Cindy just arrived at Cut Bank this evening after driving many of the miles we’ll be riding. She did not deliver good news about tomorrow’s roads. Again there will be construction and dangerously narrow mountain roads. She was genuinely concerned for our safety. I will say that I never encountered such precarious conditions riding across America’s Southern Tier. I hope I can get a good night’s sleep, I think I really going to need it.o
