Repairs on the road.

Professor Amy and her cool bike.

LaRue and Millie

Our gracious hosts, Jack and Nettie.
(The blog seems to not permit me to insert pictures into the text. All pictures will appeared at the beginning of the daily post.)
Our ride out of Napoleon was quite pleasant. The road was rolling and at times we had a nice breeze pushing us down the road. The sweet smell of the prairie grasses permeated the air and the wind made the prairie foliage look like a rolling sea of green waves. The ride was 71 miles but it seemed like less. We had a great downhill to Bismark, the capital of ND. We’re staying with Nettie and Jack just outside of Bismark. It’s really amazing that they open their home to a bunch of strangers, taking care of our every needs for two days. Nettie has MS and is a strong advocate for the MS Association. Nettie and Jack are great people and their dogs Millie and LaRue enjoyed the endless attention from the riders. After a great night’s sleep we got up and headed to a service project. We did about four hours of yard work for a woman with MS. The rain held off and the yard looked great after we finished. She was extremely grateful for the work. This is a very rewarding part of the journey. It’s tough to get up early after biking day after day and work, but when the work is completed you feel like you made a small difference in a MS patient’s life. After the yard work I headed out to find a barber shop. Lizzle cut my remaining patches of hair to perfection. She’s a Southern California girl in ND. She and her husband have moved along with oil work which has finally lef them to North Dakota. Tomorrow we continue west to Hebron, ND. The weather looks good, however, we might encounter a head wind. This could make for a tough day.
