When All Else Fails, Get Drunk!

I am enjoying a beer but only two so I’m not really getting drunk. But after dealing with British Airways all day I should be having three or four. My bike arrived at Heathrow Airport at 10AM today and I was reassured the bike and Cindy’s suitcase would be delivered to our hotel by the afternoon. That didn’t happen. They claimed that everyday they deal with thousands of lost bags and who was I to expect that my bike was a priority. This doesn’t say much for their customer service. After talking to numerous individuals from who knows where and that I could hardly understand I was told that my bike and Cindy’s bag might be delivered tomorrow if they could find a delivery service. I’ve decided to take the train to the airport tomorrow and retrieve our items. I don’t have a good word for British Airways at the moment.

On a positive note, I did get to see the Royal Air Force fly over Westminster Abby today. It was spectacular. The formation of fighter jets expelled plumes of red, white and blue exhaust as they thundered overhead.

Cindy, Audrey (Cindy’s work mate) and I enjoyed a delicious Turkish meal at a nearby restaurant. Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurants are the rage here. Curry is now number one in London while fish and chips has fallen to number two.

London is pretty much like most large cities in the US. It’s very busy and fast paced. It’s extremely multicultural. Most Europeans and the many immigrants in London speak to each other in their native tongues but they also speak English which is the common thread that unites them.

Tomorrow my friends Dave, Mac and Andrew arrive in London. We plan on making our final arrangements to transport ourselves and our bikes to Penzance which is near Lands End, our starting point. I just hope I have a bike to transport.
