Day 41 - Rolling into Mississippi

We got off to a great start in Franklin, LA. The restaurant we went to for breakfast offered us any breakfast plate we desired free of charge. The owner said he respected what we were doing and it was the least he could do. As we left town we rode down a large parade route. People lined the streets waiting for a parade that wasn't to start for at least 2 hours after we left. I think some people thought we were the pre-parade warm up act. We were all surprised at how rolling our ride was. The terrain wasn't at all flat and it seemed like a harder day than yesterday even though we had 30 less miles to ride.

At about mile 30 we passed into Mississippi along a heavily traveled road. I was really happy to get off of this highway and back onto the less traveled farm roads. It was along one of these roads that we saw large spider webs in the trees with their makers feasting on insects.

Our destination was Poplarville, Mississippi which is a small town with a few stores on the main street and the dollar stores on the outskirts. Our campground is about a mile out of town but there's a Dollar General within walking distance. What more could we ask for. Dollar Generals sell beer in this state. The owner of the campground had a jambalaya dinner prepared for us for a fee. The meal was filling and most of all, convenient.

It's usually an early bedtime when we camp which is probably a good thing tonight. Tomorrow we ride 75 miles through swamp country. Maybe John will get a selfie with an alligator.
