Day 32 - The Road to Camp Bizarre

Today was an 81 mile day ride that threw a mix of roads at us. We had rolling, chipped, smooth, safe and dangerous byways. Heavy fog cut the visibility for us and the motorist and we had to use all of the red blinking lights we could find. Most of the ride was on Farm Roads that allowed vehicles to travel at 70 mph. I felt fairly safe when we had a wide shoulder but we had this buffer between us and the speeding vehicles about half of the ride.

I was extremely grateful when we entered the small town of Shepard, TX. We were told to pick up food in town because our campsite was 3 miles out of town. We were also told by the leaders we'd be in for a real treat. When we pulled into camp we were taken aback by what was before us.

The camp was a cluster of themed cabins. Think of a bizarre Story Book Forest. The owner, Peaches, has a giant Halloween party every other year and spends months getting ready for it. Only pictures can really give you a feel for this crazy campground.

I believe we must be under some magical spell here because John and Pat asked me to give them Mohawk Haircuts. I obliged. However, I want to apologize to their wives for my grotesque work.

After we all cooked or concocted something of a dinner, a few of us played cards as ghosts and ghouls looked on.

I sure hope I can sleep tonight.
