Day 1 - Baptism in the Pacific

We began the ride by dipping our rear tires in the Pacific. From there we began riding a trail along the San Diego River where we had to dodge numerous homeless people, sad. Once we left the trail and got on the road we started climbing and climbing, but what would you expect when the destination is a town called Alpine. We all made it and our route leaders didn't have to resuscitate anyone. A first day luxury was a hotel, which surprised some of us since we thought we'd be tenting. Tomorrow we continue the climb.
